Living next to NRG Park
We’re one of the few apartment communities you can genuinely walk to NRG Stadium from. Here’s the honest version of what that means.
The walk
From the Lakes at 610 entrance it’s about a five minute walk to the NRG Park perimeter and ten to fifteen minutes to the stadium gates depending on which one you’re headed for. In practice that means Texans games, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, concerts and the big consumer shows all happen without you ever paying for event parking — which runs $30 to $60 a time.
The twenty days a year it costs you
Kirby Drive and Fannin back up in the two hours before a major event and for about an hour after. If you need to be somewhere on a Texans Sunday, leave early or go out via the south side. Residents use the Lakes at 610 entrance, which stays clear of the stadium traffic pattern.
The Rodeo is the real one to plan around: three weeks in late February and March with heavy daily traffic and, on the concert nights, noise you can hear outdoors. Inside with the windows closed it’s not an issue, but we’d rather tell you now than have you discover it in March.
The other 345 days
NRG Park is mostly empty green space and parking. The upside is that nothing is built immediately north of us, so the buildings look out over the lake and open ground rather than another block of apartments. The lakeside path loops the water and is the quietest place to run within a couple of miles.
