Living next to NRG Park: what Rodeo season is actually like
Being able to walk to NRG Stadium is either the best thing about this address or a consideration you should think about carefully. It depends entirely on you.

The good part
Texans games, concerts, the Rodeo, the big consumer shows — all of it happens within a walk. No event parking, which runs $30–$60 a time. No sitting in the queue to get out of the lot afterwards. If you like any of those things, this is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade over living somewhere you would have to drive.
Rodeo season, specifically
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs about three weeks across late February and March. It is the largest event of the year at NRG Park and the one that changes daily life around it.
What actually happens:
- Traffic on Kirby and Fannin gets heavy in the late afternoon and evening, most days for three weeks.
- On concert nights you can hear the show outdoors. Indoors with the windows closed it is not an issue.
- The area is busier and there are more people around generally, which some people enjoy and some do not.
If you work standard hours and drive north to the Medical Center in the morning, this barely touches you — the traffic is inbound in the evening. If you commute at 5 PM, budget extra time for three weeks a year.
Game days
Roughly ten home games plus a handful of other major events. The pattern is the same: heavy inbound traffic in the two hours before, heavy outbound after. Residents use the Lakes at 610 entrance, which sits off the stadium traffic pattern and stays usable.
The other 345 days
NRG Park is mostly parking and open green space. The practical consequence is that nothing is built immediately north of us, so the buildings look out over the lake and open ground rather than the back of another block. The lakeside path is the quietest place to run within a couple of miles.
Should this change your decision?
If you are noise-sensitive and work evenings, ask to see a home on the far side of the property from the road, and ask the leasing office directly which buildings face which way. They know, and a good one will tell you rather than show you the quietest unit and hope.
For most people the maths is straightforward: about twenty days a year of inconvenience in exchange for walking to events the rest of the city pays to park for.
Questions
Can you hear the stadium from inside the apartments?
During large concerts, outdoors, yes. Indoors with windows closed it is generally not noticeable. Ask to tour in the evening if this is a concern for you.
Does event traffic block residents in?
The Lakes at 610 entrance sits off the main stadium traffic pattern. Getting out is usually straightforward; getting across Kirby or Fannin during peak inbound is the slow part.
